As a traveling diver and someone who works for the ocean, it’s so shocking to see how our activities- even on land- has affected the underwater world! So many of the substances we wash down our drains go right to the sea. To do my part, I ensure I use and support sustainable programs like recycling, use reef-safe biodegradable products as much as I can and educate those around me. Practicing sustainable tourism can make a big change.

You know what, I have always thought about this topic while making traveling plans or while traveling. I feel a little guilty while contributing to the environmental impact but I love to travel so, I try to be a responsible traveler.
I use public transport whenever I can. I also bring back any plastic/wrappers/etc. and dispose them properly. I hope everyone can come together to save the environment and keep their carbon footprint to the minimum.

I have observed a lot of commercialization at some of the famous tourist places. There should be a check on the commercial activities and proper waste disposal should be performed. I hope the local people and government do not think from short term perspective only and keep the future generations in mind.

Exactly travelling is inevitable, however we all need to take equal responsibility in ensuring we make our selves aware and try to mitigate the negative impacts of traveling on our environmental.

I must firstly commend you for leading by example in practicing environmental sustainability. You’ve raised some key points and we appreciate discussions and conversations like these on the forum. Most times the ocean’s health is being overlooked which can likewise be a ticking time bomb that can throw off entire ecosystems. Waste Management for sure, being one of the largest contributors that negatively impact aquatic life, plastic ban for example. Tourism and travel have a huge role to play in Waste Generation. I believe we need to pay more attention to preserving the ecosystems of our oceans and waterways. as clean and healthy water system is vital for human sustainability on our earth. In doing so it is urgent we all take equal responsibility for preserving the environment and ecosystems, oceans included. However, as a Travel diver, what are your experiences with the underwater and how can we all holistically contribute to better oceans and waterways? -

I carry plastic wrappers and other waste with me and dispose them sensibly. I also prefer staying at homestays/bnb as compared to big hotels. As long as we treat a different city as our own and indulge in responsible tourism, I think we are good.

I know there is a lot we can’t see that impacts our environment, like emissions, but the most frustrating thing in the world to me is when I see tourists litter. These people would never leave their garbage lying around the pool at home, but they’ll do it at a Caribbean resort in a heartbeat, feeling entitled that it’s someone’s job to clean up after them. Next thing you know, the tropical breeze is carrying a bunch of plastic cups to the ocean. It’s very frustrating, and I find myself cleaning up after strangers when I see it happen.
