I’m taking a month-long photography trip through the Caribbean region this September.  One of the biggest draws for me is the colorful native wildlife that inhabits the area.  Which wildlife hotspots should I visit to capture a stunning image?

Hi @Cameraguy, thanks for sharing! Your upcoming photography trip sounds amazing. September is a great time to explore the Caribbean’s rich biodiversity, though do keep an eye on the weather since it’s hurricane season.

Some standout spots you might consider include Blue Mountains & Portland in Jamaica for native wildlife & nature, El Yunque in Puerto Rico for colorful birds and amphibians, Inagua Island in the Bahamas for flamingos, and Trinidad’s Asa Wright Nature Centre, which is a haven for bird photographers. Dominica and Saint Lucia also offer great chances to spot rare endemic species in lush, dramatic landscapes.

We’d love to see your shots, feel free to share them with us on here. Thanks. Safe travels and happy shooting!

I love the idea of traveling with great photography as the goal! Are you planning on publishing a book?

Just to add to what the moderator said, a lot of resorts have ocean pools and gardens and whatnot where beautiful native species can be found. It’s not the same as hiking through a jungle and seeing them in the wild, of course, but they might be worth checking out in addition to your adventures.

I’ve been to Saint Lucia before, and you’re right, the landscape is dramatically gorgeous.  It’s truly breathtaking scenery.
I believe I’ll hit up Trinidad this time.  Thanks for the shout about the Asa Wright Nature Centre.  It looks perfect for what I’m hoping to capture on film.
